Questions about VirtualDJ
This VirtualDJ FAQ answers the questions people actually ask before they install: is it free, can a free license play a paid gig, does it run on Windows 11, and why a serial from an auction site will not register.

License and the law
VirtualDJ is free when you are not paid to DJ and you do not use a DJ controller. Atomix Productions calls that home use. A controller at home is the Home license at $4 a month. Paid work needs Pro at $19 a month.
No. The publisher defines professional use as earning money with VirtualDJ. That needs Pro. Home is not for paid or public events, and it does not remove the branding.
Home is $4 a month and only covers entry-level controllers. Pro is $19 a month, works with any controller, removes the audio drop, and includes advanced AI features. Business is $99 a month. Monthly licenses can be canceled. A license stays on the buyer email and cannot be sold or given away.
No. Once purchased, the license stays on that email. It cannot be sold or moved to another person.
VirtualDJ includes a recorder for audio and video, with an option to start when playback starts. Broadcast to a professional radio server is listed by the publisher as a Pro-level feature, along with some AI tools. Check the license before a gig that depends on broadcast.
Build 8970, dated 20 December 2025, removed most audio drops on Home and Free. Pro is the license that removes the remaining branding, and it is the license required when you are paid to DJ.
Compatibility
Yes. Current builds support Windows 10 version 1709 or later, and Windows 11. The download page recommends Windows 11, an Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 7, and 8 GB of RAM. A 32-bit Windows install stops at VirtualDJ 2020 build 8336.
Current builds support macOS 12 through macOS 26. The publisher recommends Apple Silicon, an M1 or newer, and 8 GB of RAM. macOS 10.15 and macOS 11 stop at build 9644. Live stems and fluid beatgrids want macOS 14.4 or newer, Apple Silicon, and 16 GB of RAM.
The mixer itself is for Windows and macOS. Phones and tablets run the remote app on iOS and Android. It connects on the same Wi-Fi, over USB, or with Bluetooth tethering, with or without internet. The remote triggers pads and walks the room. It is not the full mixer.
Yes, for tracks stored on the computer. Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, SoundCloud, TIDAL, Beatport, Beatsource, CloudDrive, and Ask the DJ need a connection. The first license sign-in can also need a connection.
VirtualDJ 2026 build 9729, dated 22 October 2026 in the changelog, adds Apple Music. A public Windows listing of that build is a 563.18 MB MSI. Softonic still lists an older package, 8.5.9644.0, at 583.72 MB, updated 9 October 2026. That package matches build 9644 from 21 September 2026, not 9729. The Mac size for 9729 is not published on the pages this site used, so it is not stated here.
Safety
Atomix Productions says add-ons are checked before they are posted, and that a warning can still be wrong. Allow an install only when it came from the Extensions list inside VirtualDJ. Do not allow a file from email or a repack. For the program itself, compare the Windows MSI with the SHA256 on the download page.
VirtualDJ is closed-source software from Atomix Productions. This site does not host a repack. Build 9729 is dated 22 October 2026. A public listing of the Windows MSI gives 563.18 MB and SHA256 4d4941b7ee70e33db741e82d5a9ba4864b0f90281bfed4e21d8a0ea19c226db4. The publisher download page does not print that hash. A much smaller file, or a serial from a person, is the wrong file.
Licenses are not transferable. Atomix Productions says a serial from an auction, a classified ad, or any seller other than the publisher will not register. Those sales are treated as scams.
Stems and hardware
The publisher says plug and play for more than 300 controllers, including Pioneer DJ, Numark, Reloop, Denon DJ, Hercules, and Rane, plus a mapper and MIDI learn. Home only covers the entry-level list. Pro covers the rest, including DVS timecode.
For Stems 2.0 in real time, the requirements page asks for an NVIDIA GTX 1050 or better with 4 GB of VRAM, an RTX card with 6 GB recommended, or a Radeon RX 5600 XT or better. On a weaker PC, VirtualDJ can report that the computer might not be able to handle real-time stems. Prepare stems before the gig, or turn stems analysis off if the laptop overheats. The steps are on the guides page.
The publisher wiki lists a deck that shows Error as a failed load. Common causes are a missing file, a drive that went to sleep, or a format that build cannot read. Load the track again from an internal drive. If only a streamed catalog fails, sign in to that catalog again.
